Our shoes provide hospitality employees with footwear that are amazingly fitted, smart-looking, uniform enhancing, comfortable and durable. For all staff; front and back of house including chefs, engineers, receptionists, concierge, housekeepers, waiters and management.
Our Story
Jonathan Schofield qualified over 30 years ago with a Degree in Podiatric Medicine from Westminster University and a Diploma in Chiropody from the Northern College of Podiatry winning the Prize for Best Clinical Practice. He then completed a Master of Science Degree at the University of Salford entitled “The Development of Walking and the Effect of Different Footwear.” His studies continued in the USA with footwear design at Parsons School of Design in New York City where he also became a Certified Pedorthist, learning to handcraft orthopaedic footwear. Before turning thirty he was Director of a Silicon Valley Company advising two large international shoe brands. Recently he has worked with over 70 exclusive London Hotels and Private Members Clubs. Having set up FieldsFootwer.com, a children’s shoe company in USA, Jonathan has now developed FieldsFootwear.co.uk to help maintain the foot health of the “foot intensive” hospitality industry.

Foot Health
Our feet connect us to the earth. There are over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot relaying information to the brain about our posture, terrain and the environment.
Each foot has 26 bones, 33 joints and a network of more than 100 tendons, muscles and ligaments. One quarter of all the bones in the human body are in your feet. When these bones are out of alignment, so is the rest of the body. Stability, balance, grip and strength are all needed to walk and run these joints giving shock absorption so that the rest of your body is not jarred as you move.
In the skin of the feet together with the nerves and blood vessels are 250,000 sweat glands. When active, feet can produce four to 175 ml of perspiration a day, sometimes more. Hydration to keep the feet supple is key. A steady balance must be maintained so feet are not sweaty / wet or dry / cracked - breathable shoes are important.
A person weighs more walking than standing. Walking is dead weight plus gravity and forward movement, which adds about 30 per cent to standing weight. An average day of walking brings a force equal to several hundred tonnes to bear on the feet. The average person takes 8,000 to 10,000 steps a day - many more in hospitality!
Badly fitting shoes are the cause of many foot problems. Corns and calluses are caused by pressure, blisters and bursae by friction from skin rubbing between bony areas when wearing shoes. Shoes should be long enough, wide enough, and deep enough to prevent pressure on the foot and not too loose to cause friction.
The right shoe will promote a natural and healthy stance and walking pattern (gait), helping to prevent knee, hip and joint problems later in life. Fields Footwear is here to help.
Care Instructions
Fields Footwear shoes are made from soft, high-quality materials, leathers, metallics, and suedes.
We recommend you protect your leather and suede shoes before you wear them for the first time to extend the life of the shoes. Spray a non-toxic water repellent spray onto new shoes to protect them and make them easier to clean.
Leather
Simply wipe clean with a damp cotton cloth and allow to air dry. If a stain remains, you can also try baby wipes or mild soap and water.
With time colours may lose intensity and particular areas may appear faded due to knocks or scratches. This is normal! Polishing with a colorless leather cream will help prolong their life and may remove unwanted scuffs and scrapes.
Suede
If suede becomes wet, allow to air dry. Once dry, the suede can be brushed to release any dirt and to re-fluff the pile. For dry stains, rub a suede eraser back and forth over the discolored area until the mark disappears.
Measure and Fit
If the Shoe Fits…
When it comes to your feet working hard for you all day at work, proper fit is everything.
If shoes are too big, the foot slips forward and the toes and metatarsals (supporting bones of the foot) are crushed. If shoes are too small, the foot becomes deformed in order to force the shoe to fit.
In addition, our sizing means no more guesswork. We measure shoes in millimeters. Meanwhile, the rest of the shoe world works in an archaic system devised by Anglo Saxons in which shoe sizes were measured in barleycorn lengths (where one barleycorn equals 1/3 inch… the more you know!).
At Fields Footwear, we know you want a quick and easy way to size your feet. Gone are the time-consuming visits to shoe stores, with poorly-educated store assistants and limited in-store stock. From the comfort of your home, or even on the move, you are always first in line.
Measuring Your Feet
Here are some hints before you get started:
- You should be barefoot (with toes uncurled)
- If you plan to wear socks with your shoes, then make sure you are wearing them when you measure
- Measure one foot at a time
- Find a ruler, a pen, and a piece of paper
- Place the paper on a hard flat surface against a wall.
- Stand with your heel against the wall
- Make a mark at the tip of your longest toe.
- Record the actual measurement in millimeters
- Take the largest measurement of both feet and add 5-10 mm for wiggle room
- That’s your Perfect Size Number!
- Take that number and compare it to the Fields Footwear Size Chart below. If your foot falls in between sizes, round up.
